{ see what I did there? I am such a dork, but I love it }
Ever since I came home from the Writing From Your Soul conference in Colorado, I’ve sprung a writing leak.
Endless ideas fill up every space in my heart, which flags down my mind, and a river of thoughts end up on my iPhone notes app, in emails to myself, and scribbles in my two journals I carry around with me.
I am super happy about the flood gate being opened because I am in the process of writing my first book!
During my time at the writing conference, Dr. Wayne Dyer talked with us about his book writing process. One of his stories centered around his first book, Your Erroneous Zones. He said he shacked himself up at a hotel in Florida for two weeks and wrote the entire book.
So…that got me thinking…
Because I am so blessed (thank you! thank you!) with flexibility, I am going on a “writing retreat” to finish (or at least get very close to!) my book in my very favorite place in the world.
Any guesses!?
The Black Hills of South Dakota!
I feel so much magic just thinking about writing in my heart-land.
Here’s how this all panned out…
It all boils down to synchronicity and a little bit of “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
Back in 2011, my husband Bryan and I were guests at one of his high school buddy’s wedding. During cocktail hour, we ran into another one of Bryan’s friend’s from his high school days, Brianna. She and her boyfriend (now fiance) and Bryan and I immediately hit it off. I even found out that she grew up in the house behind Bryan for a few years growing up! Cool!
After exchanging laughs and stories, I found out that her dad experienced a calling to head out west. He opened a restaurant, Desperados, that is settled in a 1885 historic building in none other than the Black Hills!
After letting her know my passion for that part of the west, she mentioned her parents have a bunkhouse that welcome guests on a regular basis. For whatever reason, Bryan and I never jumped on the offer, even though we head out to the area each summer…
Meanwhile, Brianna and I became better friends and found we have strong common interests and personalities! It’s so awesome to meet someone in your “tribe” right!? She has always been so supportive of my path, and it’s so cool what gifts friendship can bring.
So…back to my writing retreat…
Well, I’m finally taking the hint and her family is graciously allowing me to stay in their bunkhouse to write!
Uhh…how AWESOME is this!?
I kind of want someone to pinch me (but not too hard!)…
For the next week (or so) I will be focusing writing my book. Maybe you’re wondering what I will be writing about…well, me too! OK…not really…but the firm concept is still being hashed out.
In this moment, it is a book on self-development and empowerment targeted at young people, although the concepts are completely cross-generational. I feel it a calling to help teens, 20s, and 30-somethings to stop hitting the snooze button on their spiritual path…to find their true enthusiasm (the spirit within)…because we all have it inside of us. More to come….
Because I want to dive in fully to this project right now, I am going to refrain from the good ol’ blog for the time that I am out there. I hope you understand!
I do expect I will be putting some little blurbs up on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram about my experiences so I would love for you to join me there!
Thank you for all of your kindness and support! I just adore you all.
Blair,
I will pinch you. I’m jealous. I love the Black Hills and I love that you love the Black Hills. That cabin looks awesome.
That was my all time favorite trip we took our kids on. I hope to go there in the fall someday.
Hehe thanks Sue! 😉 So happy to meet a fellow Black Hills lover! Have fun in the fall 🙂
I feel like the lucky one who has gotten to know you the last couple of years. Your courage to take the leap is always inspiring. I hope that the “Hills” and that lil’ bunkhouse are just what you need to make this next chapter (pun intended!) happen. Have FUN and enjoy the process – and send the fresh SD mountain energy our way. xo
Oh you are too sweet – I love your spirit and thank you for always being YOU! I will definitely bring back some BH energy! Love to you always! 🙂
Proud of you!! Keep me posted!!
Hi dear Tracy!!! Thank you! Say, I sent you a FB message so we can hopefully be friends! Thinking of you 🙂
I love what you are going to be doing Blair… writing a book! All the best as you go to your retreat to begin working on that. I am thrilled for you and how this all came to be. Congratulations.
Oh thank you so much Suzanne! It is FUN! Excited to share it! xo
