For me, there’s nothing more meditative than a long drive on an open road.
That’s what I did today for six hours on a long stretch of highway I’ve never explored. I left New Mexico and headed on I-40 W to Arizona. The landscape ranged from snow capped peaks to arid valleys to gulches and ended with ravishing red rocks.
Clouds, mountains, desert
Snowy brush in New Mexico
The biggest highlight of my road trip was highway 89A south from Flagstaff to Sedona.
When I first pulled onto the highway, it reminded me a lot of the Black Hills of South Dakota (tall-trunked pine trees sprouting up from a pine needle and boulder covered ground) and moved into switchbacks of stunning vistas (that I did NOT expect at all…that’s the best!). It really took my breath away and I even got a little misty-eyed…I’m such a dork! Of course, I was too caught up in my excitement that I didn’t pull over to take any pictures, but sometimes it’s best to just live in the moment.
And then…I came upon this:
Stunning Sedona
I could stare at the red rocks of Sedona for a really, really long time. There’s something so fascinating about the color, especially at the time I came into town, around sunset. Seeing this sight really reminds me why I’m taking this trip.
Following my heart means I am listening to that small voice inside me that whispers big dreams. Everyone has the power and the means to follow their heart…if you want to. Change is a choice. I promise you, if you believe you shall receive!
Here’s to a great day on the road…now, on to day 4!
