No matter if I make a resolution to make healthier choices after the holiday or not, it always seems like those intense thoughts of “how I can be better” pesters me more this time of year.
Maybe it’s because it’s January. The coldest month of the year where I forget for a couple of days at a time what the sun feels like on my face and what it’s like not to wear Uggs with every outfit. Or, maybe it’s all that warm, decadent, creamy, dreamy food that I crave because of the incessant ice and snow. And darn that seasonal affective disorder! Most Northerners have at least a mild form of it that strikes this time of year!
But. . .with all of that. . .I also crave a good, detoxifying sweat.
Unfortunately though, working out, like many things in life, can become too much of a “have to” and not so much of a “want to.”
Right now, I’m in that icky “have to work out” phase. There’s only so much time I can devote on the treadmill before I start finding excuses not to run. And that walk that Frank and I take every day (OK, not the days that it’s below zero), I think it’s time to find a different path. I could sleep walk our little three-mile jaunt. . .poor pup must be tired of it too!
Getting stuck is not something I’m comfortable with. . .
So. . .I found an awesome workout that you beautiful souls have to give a try!
It’s called INTENSATI and get this, it combines: positive affirmations and mantras with interval training, martial arts, yoga and dance. Very simply, all you need is yourself and a positive attitude and willingness to sweat.
This is one workout DVD that you will certainly not get sick of, especially this time of year.
What I love is that trainer, Patricia Moreno, uses words like “I AM grateful now” and “I AM focused now” set to the exercises as a practice to calm your mind. It really encourages you to focus on ONE thing. Which not only helps in every day life, but in meditation practice as well. During the workout, she encourages you to say the affirmations out loud as you move throughout to seal them in your soul, but it can be a little hard as you go on because you begin to run out of extra breath 🙂
I really think if you are in to a workout that encourages your mind and soul (not just your body) and appreciate something more gentle but firm, this is a great supplement to your routine. It offers a heightened awareness of love, peace, gratitude, joy and faith. What is better than that!?
Right now, I’m doing this workout three times per week. And it’s really helping me feel un-stuck in many ways. If you want to give it a try, check it out here.
What is your favorite break-up-the-winter-doldrums workout? I would love to add some more to my “must try” list!
*Editor’s note: I am not being compensated in any way by promoting this product. . .I just LOVE it and think you will too!
Wow, sounds very interesting! Especially as SAD tries to run rampant around here. I’ll be checking this out! xx
Interesting is a good word for it! But awesome too 🙂 Hope you like it!
