“If that’s a veiled criticism about me, I won’t hear it and I won’t respond to it.”
-Lucille Bluth
There is so much wisdom behind the humor of this quote. Before I get into my analysis…I so hope you’re familiar with the short lived FOX sitcom, Arrested Development. It was one hell of a smart comedy about a completely dysfunctional family (we can all relate, right?) with a lotta love too. And good news…it’s coming back on Netflix spring 2013! Well, anyway, that charming lady who uttered those words is Lucille Bluth, the spoiled matriarch of the crazy clan.
Here’s how I analyze the quote—if you’re going to criticize me, that’s your problem and I’m not going to give a hootenanny about it. Super deep, no? Well, I think I need to remember that more often…what other people think of me is really…none of my business.
Easy to say. Tougher to implement. Here’s how I’ve begun to do it…
I imagine a glowing gold and white eggshell that surrounds my body, mind, and spirit. I ask for protection from negativity and only allow love and light in my space. I do this every time I feel a bit of anxiety, sadness, or anger.
Seems to work…though, sometimes I do it a bazillion times a day 🙂
Or, if all else fails…just channel Lucille Bluth…she knows what’s up!
