Most often, I am happy.
Satisfied, content, at peace, hopeful, smiley.
Some days, I am overcome with fear and unhappiness.
Doubtful, confused, achy, depressed, paralyzed.
When I’m experiencing those feelings of unhappiness, they seem to last a lifetime. On the other side, happy times can fly by in an instant. Are you like me and can sometimes go about my happy times wondering ‘how long is this gong to last?’
It’s like the flicker of a flame — happiness can start out shy and soft, then a spark hits and it burns bright with comfort and light. Eventually, the fire tires and gets smaller and smaller until the energy runs out.
We all know that flames are meant to burn out, but the pilot light of happiness should always be lit.
It is up to you to relight that fire. Whatever energetic fire you’re stoking will make those energies grow. The feelings that you fan are up to you.
Of course, all energies (positive and negative) are temporary. Sadness leaves, happiness returns, and the cycle continues. Both sets of feelings are there for a reason.
Choosing to focus on the positive energies will make you optimistic, or as I like to say, someone who has an internal pilot light of happiness — possessing the ability to know the good will return, even though it may not feel like it in the moment.
And when you’re in that “happy place”— it’s about making time stand still. So, stoke those happy fires, my friends!
